Restore.” Maphumulo Local Municipality in partnership with the South African Government Association (SALGA) embarked on a Clean-up Campaign as part of the Good Green Deeds program in commemorating World Environment Day on Friday 4 June 2021 at KwaTshobo business area.
President Cyril Ramaphosa lunched the Good Green Deeds program to promote sustainable waste management practice in order to operate in a responsible manner. This Clean-up campaign was aimed to change the community’s attitude and behaviour towards responsible waste management, for the benefit of the environment and to create awareness to the community to take responsibility in keeping their environment clean, green and safe.
Addressing the briefing attended by stakeholders and school learners, Deputy Mayor Zama Ncalane – Mhlongo encouraged the community to keep our environments clean, “We all know that despite of some relative improvements, we are still facing challenges with waste management. Apart from the fact that, our community has seen proliferation of illegal dumps and we have faced challenges with compliance in terms of the National Environmental Waste Management Act, however the Municipality is committed to creating a positive drive towards a clean Maphumulo, which is free of litter and illegal dumping, under the theme KEEP MAPHUMULO CLEAN. I wish to challenge all citizens of Maphumulo to take a stand against littering and start practicing keeping their environments clean”, said Deputy Mayor Ncalane-Mhlongo.
