“The 2020 school academic year was very challenging. The COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown disrupted learners' lives in different ways, not only on a personal level but also the extent to which they have completed the curriculum. The schooling system has had to adapt to the “new normal” to curb the spread of the Coronavirus and to protect the lives of educators, learners and support staff at schools. We, however, know that our learners were not alone and we wish to thank all the Department, educators and school communities who have supported the Class of 2020”. Said Deputy Mayor Ncalane - Mhlongo.
The Deputy Mayor also encouraged those learners who did not produce good results to rise above the setback. “To those of our learners who did not make it, we urge them to rise above this temporary setback and work their way back to success. Many great people in history failed in their first attempt, but after persevering and working harder, they came up with some of the greatest inventions in modern life. Remember that failure is not fatal. Failure is not permanent. It’s just a temporary setback.” Deputy Mayor added.
This successful Class of 2020 Matric Excellence Awards ceremony was held in partnership with the Department of Education Maphumulo Circuit Management Centre.
