During the Special Council Meeting held on Friday, 11 November 2022, the Maphumulo Local Municipality Council appointed Mr Chris Mhlongo as the new acting Municipal Manager with effect from 14 November 2022 for a period of three months.

This appointment comes after the resignation of Mr Phakama Mhlongo who has played a major role in leading Maphumulo Municipality. The council has expressed its appreciation for the outstanding service he has given the Municipality.

On Monday 14 November 2022, Maphumulo Local Municipality Mayor, Cllr Siboniso Nyatikazi introduced the new Acting Municipal Manager to the staff during a staff meeting.

Mr Chris Mhlongo is a well-seasoned official with 19 years experience in local government and has served as Director Community Services for many years. Mr Mhlongo was previously appointed as Acting Municipal Manager at this Municipality in the year 2016 to 2017. He has exciting and innovative ideas for the development and sustainability of Maphumulo Local Municipality whilst maintaining the high standards that Maphumulo Local Municipality is known for.

Mr Mhlongo is committed to ensuring that Maphumulo Local Municipality remains a centre of excellence in providing quality basic services to the community of Maphumulo. “I am up to the task and believe with the good team of professional men and women we have in place, we will steer this ship in the right direction, because team work always wins.” Said Mr Mhlongo.

Maphumulo Local Municipality Council congratulates Mr Mhlongo on his appointment and pledges its commitment to support him in his role as the Accounting Officer.
